Tim Hassett - Head Coach & Owner

Originally from Springfield MA I was stationed on Whidbey Island, WA in the United States Navy, where I served Eight years as an electrician. Shortly after getting out of the military I found CrossFit, I was 30 years of age and on wanting to improve my fitness and health. I had always thought of myself as athletic and enjoyed almost all sports, baseball being what I excelled in most. I volunteered as a baseball coach here for the NWLL teams and loved coaching.

It didn't take long for me to fall in love with the CrossFit Community and positiveness ofother athletes. Shortly after becoming a CFL1 Coach I knew my passion for helping others achieve goals they never thought they could achieve was greater than just being a coach, I wanted to make it my Job.

I'm extremely excited to continually train others to improve their health & fitness.

I joined Crossfit because it was unlike anything I had ever experienced. I was not a big fitness person before I joined Crossfit.  I did a lot of running and some weight 

training every so often.  My biggest problem with conventional gyms was that there was all this equipment, but I had not the slightest clue of what to do with it.  I also would lose interest in doing the same old routine day after day.  I remember the first day I walked into Crossfit Oak Harbor back in October of 2014. It was on a Monday at around 5:30pm, and as I entered I was amazed of how many people were in the gym working-out. They had these disgusted but yet fulfilling look on their faces.  I told myself I wanted that.  It only took one ramp-up workout and a great set of coaches for me to realize this is where I wanted to be.  Since then, I have gone through an amazing journey and met some really amazing people.  People that I have learned so much from and have helped me to be where I am at today. The journey is far from over and will probably never end.  Nor will I ever want it to end. Crossfit is a huge part of my life and I plan to keep it that way for as long as possible.

From the age of six until eighteen, most weekends were spent with the family gathering together the skis or camping gear and heading to the hills to experience the large flakes of snow on our faces, the warm sun on our backs, or the frigid ice under our butts. My college years kept me in financial chains, so racquetball, bicycling, walking, and volleyball at the park became my sports of choice. Funny how starting a profession is supposed to free you up to do the fun things; instead, I found myself in a traditional gym trying to keep the weight off with an hour of peddling a bike in place, looking out the window at all the cars. I noticed a friend was looking fit and I wanted what he had, soon I found CrossFit and never looked back.
I had been an active member of CrossFit since 2010 and because of my passion decided it would meld well with teens. In addition to teaching high school English, I’m a middle school volleyball coach and high school softball coach. I figured if you can combine the two great passions in your life you’d have a good thing. So, I got my Level 1 CrossFit Trainer Certification and the following year my CrossFit Kids Certification. I respect and appreciate the grassroots philosophy CrossFit follows and admire how the fitness mentality and regime creates an energy of comradery and friendly companionship among the gym members, trainers, and owners. What I bring to CrossFit Oak Harbor is a great respect for the sport, a willingness to keep learning, a fight to keep the organization as wholesome as it began, and a desire to bring all members to their personal fitness goal by motivating them with fun, passion, and skill.

Kirk Kallander

I served in theNavy for 22 years as a dentist, retiring in 2004.  I started a private dental practice here in Oak Harbor in 2004 and sold it in June, 2014. I now sees dental patients part time and works as a forensic dentist with various state and national agencies.

I trained as a masters swimmer for 10 years, but got tired of the view.  His dental assistant, Irene Henderson, and avid CrossFitter, suggested he try out her gym.  It didn't take long until I was hooked.  I have been a CrossFitter for over four years, becoming a Level 1 trainer in June, 2015.

"'What I like best about CrossFit is the variation in intensityand movements that occur in each WOD.  The fact that I am routinely sore in multiple areas of my body is testament to the variety.  At 60 years old, I recognizes the importance of maintaining a good workout regimen for quality of life.  And being able to help others improve their physical strength and stamina is extremely satisfying

Wendi Hilborn

I began Crossfit in 2010 after running an entire marathon behind a lady with a Crossfit shirt on. She beat me and after talking with her after the race I knew I had to give it a try. I ran track and cross country in high school but marriage and 2 kids had taken a toll on my physical fitness.  Running wasn't doing the job of accomplishing my weight loss goals and I knew I needed to try something different.

I was hooked after my first workout. There are many things I love about our sport but my favorites are the family atmosphere and the idea that these workouts can be adapted for anyone.

Outside of the gym, I am a full time farmer with two growing sons.   At the beginning of 2016 I started coaching and I am loving sharing my passion with Crossfit with others.

Brianne Carrington

Raised in Northern California, I perused many sports, which included soccer, basketball, volleyball, swimming and water polo with basketball being my favorite.   After my acceptance into the University of San Diego I began long distance running as a release from the stress of college and to stay in shape.  After graduating with a BA in Marine Science I continued my endurance training by participating in marathons and sprint triathlons in the San Diego area.   This enticed me to do more, so in 2009 I completed my first half Ironman and in 2010 finish my first Ironman in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.  After total exhaustion from biking, swimming and running, I was searching for a new high.  That’s when I was introduced to Crossfit and haven’t looked back since.  For me, it was the perfect combination of community, endurance, strength and variability.  I received my level one cert in 2014 and also in the same year, completed my first competition with a first place finish.
